DUCTED INVERTER AIR CONDITIONING (reverse cycle)
|

|
 |
Ducted air conditioning is the ultimate in heating and cooling. You are able to select the temperature that makes you comfortable all over your home or office. They can give you the ability to have different temperatures in different areas like lounges and bedrooms, putting an end to arguments over being too hot or too cold. You can be comfortable in your own space.
This type of system works on the refrigerated type of
air conditioning.
The unit is powered by electricity and uses the ability of refrigerant gas to transfer heat from one place to the other.
|
How it works
Air inside your home is moved through grills in your roof or floor (5) depending on the installation set up in your home using a fan and transferred over a fan coil (1), usually located in your roof space.
If the unit is in cooling mode, the out door compressor (2) is moving cold air from outside to the fan coil in your roof. As the warm air building up inside your home is blown across the fan coil (1), heat is removed and transferred out side (3), leaving cooler air to move back through the ducts (4) and back into your home. |
| |
Cleans the air
The process also involves air filtration. The air is sucked through an inlet called the return air grill which has an air filter inside it. This filter requires regular cleaning to maintain the best operation of the system. The process is reversed in heating mode.
|
 |
Dehumidifys
Refrigerated air conditioning also has the ability to regulate humidity. If it is a warm humid day, the fan coil will remove moisture from the air being blown over the indoor fan coil. The water collected falls down to a tray and is drained outside.
You can see the same process in effect when you place a cool glass of water outside on a hot day. Before long you will have water forming on the outside of the glass and dripping down. That’s why we need to use coasters!

Zoning your home
Zone motors not only allow you to isolate areas of your house, they also increase the efficiency of running your heating or air conditioning system.
They sit inside the duct and allow you to close them, much like closing a door or even partially close them to restrict air flow.
The controller for the zone motors could sit next to the thermostat or any other place in the house that is convenient.
There are many different types of controlers for zone motors also.
Some can be as simple as turning a switch on and off, just like a light switch.
Other systems can be sophisticated giving you control over the temperature of each room using a central touch pad or seperate touch pads.
Which ever system you use, the result if used correctly can increase the efficiency of your air conditioner and lower your running costs

Ducted air conditioning installation
Installation of a ducted air conditioner usually takes 1 day.
If the unit is going in the roof space, tiles or tin sheets usually need to be removed to fit the indoor fan coil inside.
A suitable area needs to be located for the out door unit to be placed that will be as unobtrusive as possible and also placed in an area that will not annoy your neighbors.
If the unit is not situated close to other homes then noise will not be a problem as the quality brands on this website are very quiet.
|
Electrical requirements
Your electrical switchboard and mains also need to be assessed to make sure they can handle the ducted air conditioner. In most new homes this is not an issue but older homes may need an electrical upgrade.
Typically a switchboard upgrade will cost approx $2500. Electrical regulations require upgrade of old mains from the street when a new switchboard is installed.
This will be arranged with your electrical supplier and the electrician.
Also, depending on the size of the unit, some require 3-phase power. Most homes use single phase so this needs to be clarified before installation.

Main features of ducted inverter air conditioning
Heats and cools
Regulates humidity
Does your whole home
Is quiet
Ability to have different temperatures in different rooms.
Ability to heat and cool only the rooms you want to using zone motors
Second, you have ducted gas heating
This type of system works using gas burners. This unit is powered by natural gas and also electricity.
It works in a similar way to ducted air conditioning as far as air flow is concerned. Air inside your home is moved through grills in your roof or floor depending on the installation set up in your home using a fan and blown over gas burners, heating the air and moving it back inside as heated air. The process also involves air filtration. The air is sucked through an inlet called the return air grill which has an air filter inside it. This filter requires regular cleaning to maintain the best operation of the system. Imagine a vacuum cleaner filter that is never cleaned . The vacuum works harder and does less.

Third, you have add on cooling
This type of system is attached to ducted gas units and allows refrigerated cooling to be able to use the existing ducts.
So you are using gas heating in winter and refrigerated cooling in summer. A fan coil similar to the type used in reverse cycle refrigerated systems is integrated in to the same duct work. An out door compressor is located outside, usually near the gas heater. A simple control wire is connected between the outdoor units to allow control of both heating and cooling via the wall controller inside. The duct work needs to be sized and insulated to be able to accommodate an add on cooler.
